Freelance Horse Training & Coaching
Calm, thoughtful, progressive work with horses and riders across the UK & Ireland
How I can help
Foundations and Early Education
A calm, structured approach to the early stages of a horse’s education.
This work focuses on helping horses understand pressure, develop emotional regulation, and build confidence before things are rushed or layered on too quickly.
Whether you’re bringing on a young horse or resetting gaps in an older one, the aim is to create clarity and understanding that both horse and rider can build on safely.
Ridden Coaching & Refinement
Coaching for riders whose horses are already educated, but feel blocked, inconsistent, tight or capable of more.
This work is about improving communication, feel and balance, rather than adding pressure or drilling movements. Often the changes are subtle on the outside, but significant in how the horse feels to ride.
Sessions are tailored to both horse and rider, with a strong emphasis on understanding why things are happening and how to influence them going forward.
Problem Solving
Working with you and your horse to understand the root of an issue, rather than just managing the symptoms.
This may involve groundwork, ridden work, or a combination of both, always guided by what is appropriate and safe on the day.
Common areas include loading, mounting, tension, resistance, loss of confidence, and horses that feel anxious, inconsistent or difficult to manage.
Clinics and Lessons
One-to-one lessons and small group clinics focused on improving communication, feel and understanding between horse and rider.
Clinics are structured but flexible, allowing time to observe, ask questions and learn from others, not just your own session.
Suitable for riders at all stages who want thoughtful, progressive guidance rather than quick fixes.
Young Stock Handling
Support for owners bringing on young horses, with an emphasis on groundwork, early education and setting clear, calm foundations.
The focus is on helping horses learn how to learn, develop confidence and respond to pressure in a way that prepares them for ridden work when the time is right.
Owners are fully involved throughout, with clear guidance on how to continue the work between sessions.
About
I’m a freelance horse trainer and problem-solver based in the North East of England, working with owners and riders at their own yards across the UK and Ireland.
My work focuses on developing clarity, confidence and understanding between horse and rider. This might mean building solid foundations with a young, anxious or reactive horse, or helping an already educated horse become freer, more comfortable and more consistent in their work.
I don’t take horses in for training, I come to you. Working in the horse’s normal environment allows the training to sit alongside how the horse is actually managed and ridden day-to-day, and ensures owners are fully involved in the process.
My approach is calm, structured and un-rushed. I don’t force progress or work to the clock, and I’m honest about what is appropriate and safe for the horse and rider on the day. Often the most meaningful changes come from improving understanding, timing and feel, rather than doing more or pushing harder.
A significant part of my work is educating owners and riders. My aim is always to leave you with clear, progressive steps and practical tools you can continue to apply yourself, rather than creating dependence on regular sessions.
I work with a wide range of horses and rider, from those rebuilding confidence or addressing behavioural issues, through to riders looking to refine communication and remove subtle physical or mental blocks in educated horses.
If you’re looking for quick fixes or force-based solutions, I’m probably not the right fit.
If you value thoughtful, honest work that puts understanding, safety and long-term progress first, you’re very welcome to get in touch.
"Anything forced or misunderstood can never be beautiful."
