Ridden Coaching and Refinement
Helping horses and riders improve communication, balance and confidence
Ridden coaching and refinement sessions are designed for horses that already have a level of education but feel blocked, tight, inconsistent, or like they could be more relaxed and expressive under saddle.
This work is not about drilling movements or pushing through resistance. Instead, it focuses on improving clarity of communication, feel and partnership between horse and rider, helping you understand why things are happening and how to influence them in a calm, thoughtful and safe way.
Sessions can include:
improving feel, timing and balance under saddle
identifying and reducing tension or brace in the horse
refining transitions and responses
building confidence in new or tricky environments
enhancing the rider’s understanding of subtle cues
Every session is tailored to the horse and rider in front of me — what is appropriate and safe on the day guides the work, not a fixed checklist. Whether you’re simply looking for more fluid communication or trying to unlock the next step in your partnership, this coaching is about sustainable progress rather than quick fixes.
How This Coaching Works
One-to-One Focus
Ridden coaching sessions are normally delivered one-to-one or in very small groups, ensuring that there is space for thoughtful observation, discussion and learning. The emphasis is on practical, usable coaching that helps you build confidence and understanding both in the moment and between sessions.
Active Owner Involvement
You will be involved throughout the process — not watching from the sidelines. This ensures that what you learn in the session can be applied reliably in your own riding and handling afterwards.
Clear Progression
Rather than ticking boxes or pushing through goals, we work at a pace that suits both you and your horse. You will be given clear, progressive steps to work on in between sessions, helping consolidate learning and build clarity over time.
This Work is For Riders Who:
Want more clarity and communication with their horse
Feel stuck or frustrated with plateaued progress
Want to soften tension or resistance
Are already riding, but want more responsiveness
Value thoughtful, reflective coaching rather than quick fixes
Important to Know
All sessions are freelance and carried out at your own yard or chosen venue — I don’t take horses in for training.
My approach is calm, structured and rider-inclusive, prioritising safety and understanding before pushing for results.
If this way of coaching feels like a good fit, you’re very welcome to get in touch to discuss your goals and how we can work together.
