Young Stock Handling

Calm, structured foundations for young and inexperienced horses

Young stock handling sessions focus on building calm, clear foundations for horses in the early stages of their education.

This work is centred around helping young horses understand pressure, develop emotional regulation and learn how to respond calmly to everyday handling, rather than rushing towards ridden work.

Sessions may include:

  • Leading and personal space

  • Basic groundwork and responses to pressure

  • Confidence around new environments and situations

  • Preparation for farrier, vet and routine handling

  • Early in-hand work where appropriate

The aim is to help young horses develop confidence and understanding that supports their long-term education, while also giving owners clear guidance on how to continue the work safely.

Owners are fully involved throughout the process. My role is to coach and guide you as much as the horse, so that handling remains consistent and appropriate between sessions.

Progress is guided by the individual horse, not by age, timelines or expectations.

Important to know

All work is freelance and carried out at your own yard.
I don’t take horses in for training.
